R&D 224

hello there.

I think it is about time for a little fun in the R&D dept.

This time around we are just going to loosen up and have some fun...

Lets work with a large sheet of paper... use the medium of your choice, but can i suggest say, a big fat stick of charcoal or graphite... even a marker, like a sharpie would be good.

We are going to be working from a pose given to us some time ago by Rafferty... it is a lovely pose with some really nice complimentary arcs and curves...

We are going to do gesture drawing of this pose... or several of them... do them till you get one you like... or try it with different mediums each time... try a house painting brush if you want.

I want you to stand when you do this one if possible... let's use big arms.... in other words hold your stick or brush like harry potter holds his wand and don't be afraid to get into it and draw from your shoulder....

Let's be most concerned with the gesture of this pose.... and if you think it is absolutely necessary for us to understand the pose you can begin to include some of the major anatomical structures but keep them to a minimum... this is not a portrait assignment. Think of this a 30 to 60 second pose.... you need to work fast.. and get the pose down with the first mark or two...

If you do more than one, post them all if you can. It will be interesting to see your different attempts.

Let's use this exercise to get outside of ourselves and loosen up a little all the while being very concerned for the lines that make up this pose.

Thanks again raff for this inspiring pose...

I think that some of you once you have done a few gesture sketches of this pose my very well be considering doing something a bit more involved with it.

This one is due on Oct 30th... so work fast.

see you soon,

LET's DRAW!!!

...royce
