R&D 220

Hi all:

Have no fear.... the new R&D is here.

Okay, this one just came to me out of the blue and so if it seems a little half-baked... it really isn't. It is fully cooked, it just happens that it was done in the micro-wave.

We are going to be working from a pose that Ben did way back in Febuary.. maybe even a year ago..... He has so many good poses stored away there on imagevent that I had a difficult time choosing one. Go check them out if you haven't... And while you are over there, Ronnie has a new gallery there as well.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...

When we look at the human form it can really be broken down in to some very simple geometric shapes... ovals cylinders, triangles... and so on. What I want you to do is this; do a drawing on as large a piece a paper as you can comfortably work... draw this pose using only geometric shapes... pay attention to perspective in receeding objects.

Once you have the figure blocked out in shapes... without erasing the shapes draw the figure inside of the shapes... does that make sense... you are doing two drawings, one on top of the other.

Remember R&D projects are about learning not necessarily about making great finished masterpieces.

As you work on the shapes, think in 3-D not just flat shapes. And think about how each shape is positioned in relation to the others. Also there may be smaller geometric shapes inside of the bigger ones... like the calf muscle for example.

I think this will be a good exercise in helping to find volume in the form.

This one will be due on May 28th.

Now, LET's Draw!!!!
