Good Monday morning!!
I figured this might be a good way to start off the week.
As always there are so many good things happening among the members of our
group,
that I have to commend you on all the efforts in word, art and pose.
It is awesome.
And now in the current tradition of awesomeness I present R&D005. You will
find the pose
in the R&D folder, and you will there find a pose created by andrew. as I looked
through the
photos of Andrew i knew just what I wanted to do for this project. And after
studying the poses
I think I found the one that will work best.
For this bit of research and development I want you to think back on the days
when you were
copying from the pages of your favorite comic books. (that may be easier for
some of your
than others... that is, some of you maybe never did that.)
I would like you to create a drawing that is only black and white. No gray
at all. Initially observe
the negative space around the figure, use those shapes to help you get the figure
in proportion.
My guess is, is that those negative spaces will be black.
There are many subtle details and contours in this poses; folds in the skin
that flow around and
through this pose. Don't be afraid to represent them with black lines. Control
the thick and thin
of your lines so that you can still understand the softeness of the flesh.
I might suggest that you try finishing this exercise with a brush and ink.
I would still begin with
a pencil sketch to get everything in its rigthful place. If you haven't used
a brush and ink in a
while this will be a good opportunity.
If you have a sumi brush you may want to use it... they are capable of quite
fine detail as well
as being able to lay down some very thick brushstrokes. And with a little practice
you can
pretty easily go from thin to thick and back to thin again or somewhere in between
all in one stroke.
And if you are feeling like you owe yourself a little treat, as i remember
sumi brushes can be
had for a couple of dollars, that is to say that i don't recall them being too
expensive.... in fact
I may go get a new one myself.
So let's get into some hardcore black and white art.
LETS DRAW!!!
