Life 120 assignment
With so many new members and even some long time members, we can't often put
a
face to a name.
Let's all do a self portrait so we can our face on our names.
Artists throughout history have done self portraits that reveal a great deal
about them. Not just their appearance but a little glimpse of their essence.
Think about Van Gogh and what he was thinking while painting his bandaged ear
or
Rembrandt or Carravagio or Chardin in his strange looking head wraps.
I collected to of these as examples of what these famous people did when
painting themselves. Some of them beg the question "how on earth could
they have painted
such a pose?" Mary Cassatt's full figure? Caravaggio's?
Most of them are also very animated and expressive.
So here's the assignment:
Draw or paint a self portrait. It can be head and shoulder or full figure. Put
a
mirror on the ceiling or floor or make a face or put on a goofy hat.
Models too, please do a self portrait.
Mostly try not to work from a photo Unless, of course you are a model :-),
and
don't make it a serious head and shoulders pose. Have some fun with it.
Let's try to have it done by February 11.
