Fabrication 005

It’s that time again to do a Fabrication! yippy! Fab 005 will be based off of a photo of Deke (thanks Deke), it is a wonderfully soft and inspiring image with a lot of shapes coming through. This got me thinking that it would be nice to do a drawing based off of shapes and not line this time!

Here is the skinny, use any style, any media, and any size, but larger the better. All I ask it that you use shades of gray/color to define edges not line ex. the shoulders are very light compared to the darker gray of the background so the gray "shape" of the back ground should define the shape of the lighter foreground not a line that separates them. (makes sense?) There are two nice triangles (as the shoulders move into the mid back) forms a different gray value then the middle back, etc...) so what I am trying to say is look at the shapes that are formed in the figure and use color or shades of gray to define them. squinting helps you to see these areas (or printing out in b/w).

this project ends 8/7/03!

To help you out there are some beautiful drawings by Albrecht Dürer that you all should look at, he loved to use soft shapes to define his subjects and was one of the early experts on anatomy and is talked about in sever figure drawing books that I have looked at over the years.

now lets draw!
